Career Connections Liaison VISTA, Columbia Gorge STEM Hub

The Columbia Gorge STEM Hub is a regional network of schools, nonprofits, businesses, and civic leaders working to increase opportunities for all students in the region to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The Hub is supported by the Oregon Department of Education and local donors. We support the counties of Gilliam, Hood River, Sherman, Wasco, & Wheeler in Oregon, while also collaborating with Skamania & Klickitat counties in Washington.

Member Duties : As the Career Connections Liaison VISTA, you will assess the needs and opportunities around STEM career connections in the Columbia River Gorge, with a focus on internship access and volunteerism. Using your findings, you will develop messaging and tools to expand internship placements and better connect community-minded STEM professionals with volunteer opportunities. You will then lead community outreach and recruitment of business partners and individuals. You will support volunteer implementation to ensure a smooth onboarding of both the industry partners and, eventually, other non-profit organizations that will be able to benefit from the volunteer matching tool. You will also support internship implementation and work with school-based internship coordinators to expand their existing internship pool by partnering with community organizations to strategize around increasing the number of paid summer internships available to high school and college students.
