The mission of CSC’s Center for STEM Education and Career Development is to inspire more young people to consider and pursue careers in STEM fields by focusing on the following goals: Through the unique capabilities of the Center for STEM Education and Career Development, CSC provides a focused forum for collaboration among key STEM education stakeholders to collectively address STEM education in our region with a multifaceted approach that includes student programming, teacher training, business and industry needs, and government initiatives. Guided by a highly engaged team of partners from our region’s business and academic STEM leaders, the STEM Center uses these collaborations to develop and deliver exceptional STEM programming directly to students, teachers, business leaders, and parents.

Member Duties : As the Carnegie Science Center STEM Partnerships Development VISTA, you will assist with advancing the mission of Mentors in the Making and STEM Stars. The Mentors in the Making program is a one-to-one mentoring program at Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center (CSC) for youth ages 14-18 from low income families in the Pittsburgh area. Mentors in the Making assures that students participating in the program are exposed to a clear workforce and post-secondary education pipeline. STEM Stars is an out-of-school time enrichment program for middle school girls, which operates in 20 sites in the Pittsburgh area. Acting as a liaison between Carnegie Science Center and external organizations, you will streamline student recruitment, fundraise, plan and coordinate a family-structured event, and provide support for the actual programs.
