Skagit VISTA Outreach and Awareness Coordinator

This position is part of a 10-member VISTA team operated out of Community Action of Skagit County. Our mission is to foster and advocate for self-sufficiency among low-income people in Skagit County. The Skagit VISTA team helps achieve Community Action’s goal of helping people help themselves and each other by building infrastructure and capacity for programs that serve economically disadvantaged individuals across the county. Our partner and host agency for this position is Skagit Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services (SDVSAS). SDVSAS is a recognized provider of domestic violence(DV) and sexual assault(SA) services in Skagit County. Their services include crisis intervention, emergency shelter, advocacy-based counseling, legal, medical and social services advocacy, support groups, children’s advocacy and community education and prevention. The member will be creating capacity and structure in existing programs and developing new programs that will allow SDVSAS to improve services and reach more of the community. They will participate in a variety of tasks that will build multiple skills in an individual, including management, research, grant writing and program development skills. Skagit County is nestled halfway between Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC and just east of the San Juan Islands offering access to the best the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Fans of the outdoors will love our little corner of the world as hiking, kayaking, river rafting, and biking are a small selection of the popular activities with locals and visitors alike. In addition, our team is composed of both locally grown VISTAs and those who have traveled from out of state. Often our VISTAs spend time together outside of service hours, building a strong support network. This position comes with a living stipend of $1,025 per month and an education award of $6,095 or $1800 end of year stipend after a completion of a year of service.
