'21-'22 Mobile Food Bank & Home Delivery Coordinator VISTA

Making a Difference Foundation's (MADF) mobile food bank and home-delivery services operate throughout Pierce County, bringing food and other necessities to people experiencing hunger. The people we serve are the area’s most vulnerable to food insecurity: the elderly and disabled experiencing poverty who can’t come to the on-site food bank location due to health, safety, and transportation issues. It also serves communities that are known to be lower-income, food deserts, underserved, or communities with a higher concentration of racial and ethnic diversities. This program operates six days a week at various hours while the on-site food bank is open. Using staff and volunteers, we not only make deliveries to subsidized housing complexes that serve seniors and people with disabilities, but we also visit churches, libraries, subsidized family housing, and community events so people from all walks of life can receive the food they need. The VISTA will be a member of United Way of Thurston County’s VISTA team, made up of 19 other VISTA members. The UWTC VISTA team is supported by the VISTA Leader, who coordinates professional development opportunities, provides individualized support and resources, and supports the program’s success.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build capacity for the mobile food bank and home-delivery programs by working to build a volunteer program to recruit and train new volunteers to the program. These volunteers will also help prepare meal boxes for delivery. The VISTA member will develop a database of deliveries within the community, notify communities and locations where the mobile food bank will be ahead of arrival, and work to raise community awareness and support of the program. The member will be responsible for developing systems to track volunteers, implementing data evaluation and reporting strategies, and help us increase capacity to serve more clients in need.
