'19-'20 Resource Development Coordinator VISTA

Washington Trafficking Prevention’s (WTP) work is focused on empowering youth by training adults & facilitating program in-schools & in out-of-school youth-serving agencies & empowering communities through community Coalitions Against Trafficking groups. The VISTA will fight poverty by helping end exploitation of the most vulnerable in our communities. WTP’s Take On: Youth Empowerment Program provides middle and high students with ways to engage their learning, discussions & activities on a range of topics like empathy, gender stereotypes, healthy relationships & sexual exploitation. The program encourages & empowers youth to “take on” the issue of human trafficking & exploitation & become part of the solution through increased knowledge & change in attitude & behavior. After the training phases are completed, a trained facilitator at the school/agency integrates it in the class or program at their agency. The facilitators can sustain the program each year with minimal additional resources & with the support of trained staff from WTP. This model furthers the trusting relationships among youth & professionals. Youth participants are invited to take action by planning & executing an anti-trafficking project. By reinforcing what has been learned in the program, they have an opportunity to serve, lead & continue behavior change after completion of the program. The program is made possible through our partnerships with intergenerational community coalitions. The volunteer coalitions strengthen & multiply the efforts of staff & provide a foundation of community support & buy-in. The VISTA will be a member of United Way of Thurston County’s VISTA team, made up of 19 other VISTA members & supported by the VISTA Leader, who coordinates professional development opportunities, provides individualized support & resources & supports the program’s success.
