*MTCC VISTA- Missoula Urban Demonstration Project

Missoula Urban Demonstration Project is located in Missoula, Montana. Missoula does not currently offer environmental educational afterschool programming to economically disadvantaged youth. According to Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services' 2016 Montana Child Care Market Survey, the average cost of afterschool care is $220/month/child. Further, 53-70% of children in MUD’s immediate neighborhood qualify for free and reduced lunch (USDA Area Eligibility Map). MUD's after-school programming will provide free services to at-risk youth in the Missoula community. This VISTA project will help create opportunities for local area low income youth to learn creative, sustainable, low-input solutions to every-day practical challenges that poverty presents. These will be solutions that can be applied in overcoming the oppressive challenges of poverty by repairing what is damaged and reintroducing non-conforming nature-based inspiration and creativity into the urban matrix.
