Mass Poetry Events and Communications VISTA

Mass Poetry is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting poetry in Greater Boston and across Massachusetts while delivering its poetry programs to more then 3,500 underserved students each school year. From hosting the Massachusetts Poetry Festival, one of the nation’s largest poetry festivals, to placing poets-in-residence at area schools, Mass Poetry uses poetry as a way to forge community and raise all voices. In Spring 2020, Mass Poetry will become an anchor tenant and key partner at the Narrative Arts Center in Boston’s Seaport District, a 13,000-square foot community space spearheaded by Grub Street and dedicated to writers of all backgrounds and income levels. The Events and Communications Coordinator VISTA will focus on supporting communications by creating content for an annual report to drafting copy for its website, in order to raise the visibility of Mass Poetry’s mission and programs. Additionally, he/she will serve in concert with the organization’s executive director to raise funds that will help expand the reach of Mass Poetry’s low-cost poetry programs to underserved youth. Specifically, Mass Poetry’s VISTA member will support a series of grassroots events from a crowd-sourced fundraiser to a series of house parties aimed at raising the organization’s visibility. Additionally, he/she will input new donations into the organization’s database, so that Mass Poetry can better tailor its marketing and communications to its donors. Mass Poetry’s VISTA member will serve with and train alongside staff members at Mass Poetry’s headquarters in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood. A monthly travel stipend is available to all service members.
