*MTCC VISTA Rural Institute - University of Montana

Montana's citizens with disabilities earn much less, are under- or un-employed and less educated than non-disabled counterparts. These individuals and their families are often disenfranchised from the communities and providers that serve them. The ratio of those with disabilities to those without who have at least a bachelor's degree is 1:3. Evidence regarding the positive long-term earning potential and life satisfaction outcomes of those with a college degree, compared to those with only a high school diploma is indisputable; college degrees lift people out of poverty and anything less than a college degree, especially for those with activity limitations, is a sure recipe for lifelong poverty. Individuals with disabilities and their families consistently rate lack of resource awareness and insufficient training related to existing resources as a high priority concern. Community organizations tasked with providing training and resources often share outdated content and/or are unable to meet the information needs of those with complex or atypical disability concerns. This project is designed to get current information to individuals and families so that they can make more informed decisions about service, supports, policies and programs that impact their independence and self-support outcomes. TO APPLY: Submitting AmeriCorps application is not required** To apply, please fill out the Montana Campus Compact application found at https://mtcompact.org/americorps-vista/apply-to-serve/full-time-member-application-process. PRIORITY DEADLINES are April 10th & May 8th. *Selected applicants will be required to formally apply to their VISTA position as part of the Montana Campus Compact onboarding process.
