Stewards VISTA: Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC)

The Southeast Conservation Corps(SECC), a program of Conservation Legacy,is a locally based non-profit that operates conservation service programs throughout Chattanooga and the Southeast region. SECC programs are designed to meet the needs of natural landscapes while empowering young people to cultivate compassion, responsibility, and grit through community service, hard work, and environmental stewardship. Through partnerships SECC connects a diverse population of corps members to meaningful conservation projects that directly impact Southeastern communities and natural landscapes. SECC has developed a positive reputation for the breadth of project work crews and interns can complete, ranging from technical trail construction and maintenance to wild land firefighting, habitat restoration, and invasive/exotic plant removal. Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC) is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA to advance community engagement and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within our programs. As SECC’s programs and partnership reach grows, a reflection of its community’s diversity should also be evident. The desired outcome is to promote stronger community connections between SECC and our local community. The member will perform indirect service activities including community event planning, community outreach, fund development, partnership development, and local environmental and community assets and need assessments. At the end of the VISTA project year the Member can expect to advance their knowledge and skills in nonprofit fundraising, public speaking, public engagement, project management and implementation of DEI initiatives. As with all AmeriCorps VISTA service opportunities, all activities will be founded in poverty alleviation and organizational capacity building. Applicants that are local to the Chattanooga region and have prior corps experience and/or experience working with young people are encouraged to apply.
