Stewards VISTA: Arizona Conservation Corps (AZCC)- Tucson

Arizona Conservation Corps is a program of Conservation Legacy and aims to continue the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s. AZCC is focused on connecting youth, young adults, and recent era military veterans with conservation service projects on public lands. AZCC offers a variety of service opportunities: • Field crews which work on trail, range, or forest fuels projects and camp out for eight or more days at a time • Individual placements which pair our members with supervisors from local land management agencies and often have specific focuses like GIS, hydrology, archaeology, or recreation • Ancestral Lands crews which are focused on engaging Native people in conservation work • Veterans’ Fire Corps crews which provide training and experience to recent-era military veterans to prepare them for fire careers • Local crews which focus on providing service and professional development opportunities to members from nearby communities. Project work includes: • Trail construction and maintenance • Watershed and forest restoration • Range fence repair and improvement • Invasive species management and monitoring • Survey and inventory work • Disaster response, often on month long deployments • Historic preservation Program outcomes are dual in nature – the service opportunities we provide contribute not only positive impacts to the environment, but also to our members and their communities. Members get hands-on experience, mentor ship, professional and technical skills, and develop as individuals and leaders on their crews and in their communities. In short, AZCC engages individuals and strengthens communities through service and conservation.
