Campus Compact VISTA- National Louis University
 
 
 
The VISTA will help establish a program for NLU students to serve in a volunteer tutor/mentoring capacity for low-income youth in after-school programs in underserved Chicago neighborhoods. The VISTA will work to develop relationships with community organizations that serve this population and will build a system for NLU students to become involved with K12 youth in those organizations. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $542.22. In addition to the benefits listed above, the host site will provide access to professional development opportunities. The AmeriCorps VISTA serving at National Louis University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps. Serving as a part of the Campus Compact VISTA corps provides VISTAs the chance to connect with corps members throughout multiple states, to create a network of support, and to share resources. Campus Compact supports the professional and personal growth of VISTA members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings throughout their service year.

Member Duties : The VISTA will coordinate with NLU student volunteers by implementing activities associated with connecting and matching college students to serve as tutors/mentors to k12 youth at 3-5 community organizations. The VISTA will develop relationships with the community partners and will develop a sustainable process for recruiting and placing NLU volunteers to serve in a tutoring/mentoring capacity to low-income youth in Chicago. The VISTA will provide formative assessment of NLU tutors and will research best practices for creating and sustaining a tutoring program between low-income k12 youth and college students.
