Campus Compact VISTA - James Madison University, VA
 
 
 
The goal of this VISTA project is to enhance overall community capacity to address food insecurity by strengthening an inter-organizational collaborative network, enhancing existing programs’ integrity and reach, and building infrastructure to pilot food programs in regional public schools in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $472.22 in Rockingham County, VA. In addition to the benefits listed, JMU will provide the following: fitness center pass, public transportation pass, conference attendance and professional development opportunities. The AmeriCorps VISTA serving at JMU will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps. Serving as a part of the Campus Compact VISTA corps provides VISTAs the chance to connect with corps members throughout multiple states, to create a network of support, and to share resources. Campus Compact supports the professional and personal growth of VISTA members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings throughout their service year. Member Duties : With partners on and off-campus, the VISTA will build on existing local research to enhance community efforts to address food insecurity in Harrisonburg and the surrounding community. This position will contribute to the success of campus and community-wide efforts by building and strengthening relationships and communication with community and campus partners. This will include convening stakeholders, providing support and coordination assistance to the Neighborhood Food Market & Taste Testing Programs, and planning, coordinating, and facilitating community meetings. The VISTA will also assist with the development and implementation of evaluation and assessment tools, and collecting and compiling data. Finally, the VISTA will participate in the Rockingham Food Task Force as well as other consortiums addressing food insecurity to propose and expand food programs in public schools and the community and research funding opportunities and other resources to ensure program sustainability.
