Campus Compact VISTA - UMASS Lowell, MA

The River Hawk Scholars Academy (RHSA) is a growing student success program for full-time, first-year, UMass Lowell students who identify as first-generation college students or who went through Gear Up, Bottom Line, OneGoal, or another TRIO-based program in the Massachusetts public school systems. The program promotes student success and fosters engagement in the campus and local community by providing holistic support, academic resources and meaningful activities to RHSA students as they transition from high school to a diverse college campus and as they learn what it means to be a college student. The program is designed to facilitate RHSA students’ intellectual and personal growth through the empowerment of self-advocacy and the ability to identify the many opportunities UMass Lowell has to offer. The program, now in its second year, is experiencing tremendous growth and anticipates further growth into its third year in 2019-20. The VISTA will build capacity and infrastructure for the program that supports sustainability. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $791.70 in Middlesex County, MA. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide a fitness center pass and conference attendance opportunities. The AmeriCorps VISTA serving at UMass Lowell will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps. Serving as a part of the Campus Compact VISTA corps provides VISTAs the chance to connect with corps members throughout multiple states, to create a network of support, and to share resources.
