*MTCC Summer VISTA- Get Fit Great Falls

GetFit Great Falls, Inc. is located in Great Falls, Montana. GetFit Great Falls promotes the benefits of healthy lifestyles to the citizens of Great Falls and Cascade County through a unified community effort that encourages cultural and system change. Under the supervision of the City Park and Rec staff, the Summer Associates (Park Pals) will develop activities that require inexpensive or no equipment and art and science programs. The Park Pals will coordinate with the school district’s food truck and a program that gives books to kids in parks throughout the summer. There is growing science connecting poverty and health. By giving economically disadvantaged youth free healthy meals, the Park Pals program is addressing an immediate need of providing them food they otherwise couldn't afford, and providing nutrition and building healthy habits that will benefit them in school and help them grow into healthy adults. Eating good food is the most basic thing we can do to lay the foundation for good health, and academic, social and financial success.

Member Duties : The Summer Associate will discover kid friendly activities that can be done outdoors and research activities that also share knowledge of Native American history and culture; build a calendar of activities for June, July and half of August.; gather needed supplies; and reach out to neighborhoods where activities are planned to share information about Park Pals program and planned activities. Furthermore, the Summer Associate will go to four to five sites for an hour each week day and coach children to complete each planned activity; take sack lunches from the food truck to parks and give to kids who are participating in planned activities; and share information about school district's summer food program and schedule.
