Iowa International Center ELL Program

The Accessible ELL Program is part of the Iowa International Center’s Multilingual Services, delivering English language instruction to immigrants and refugees in locations that are convenient and familiar to the target population. Our ELL program teaches adult refugee and immigrants – the majority of whom are from Somalia, Congo, Sudan, Myanmar, Eritrea, Iran, Bhutan, and Syria – in order to assist with integration of their lives in Des Moines, and to set them on paths of prosperity through learning valuable life skills and language readiness. The ELL Program Coordinator works closely with instructors and community volunteers, agency staff, and ELL students, and s/he will strengthen partnerships between the organization with the local community through volunteer mobilization, community engagement, and resource development. These resources will be used to supplement the existing program by providing additional materials, training, and outreach.
