Mission: St. Louis is a community development nonprofit that empowers people to be leaders in their lives, families and neighborhoods. We are unique in our approach, fighting poverty using a community-based model that values relationship and opportunity. We hold closely to the belief that we can all learn from each other, regardless of status, race, or social position. Through taking time to build relationships that move beyond the traditional helper-helpee dynamic, we seek to restore dignity to people who live in now-struggling communities. The experts in a community are those who are living there, taking part in the life of the neighborhood every single day. We want to serve alongside those experts, empowering them to lead the way in bringing about lasting change and through creating access to opportunities for education or employment. Our vision is that people live in neighborhoods full of opportunity, know and serve their neighbors, and are invited into gospel-centered community. Our goals are to develop people and communities holistically, empower impoverished and underserved people to grow and develop in all aspects of their lives, and work alongside individuals to inspire and develop indigenous leadership. To accomplish these goals, we focus on: (1) Ensuring youth are prepared to succeed in high school through Beyond School, (2) Empowering people to be leaders in the workplace through Beyond Jobs, (3) Respond to community needs through Beyond Charity programs (i.e. Senior Services, AMP, Tax Prep, Affordable Christmas).

Member Duties : The goal of Mission: St. Louis is to eradicate poverty through empowerment and opportunity. We focus our efforts within the city of St. Louis, where there is a 25.5% poverty rate. The Data Analysis VISTA will build the capacity of Mission: St. Louis by developing and implementing the Home Repair and AMP (service trip) programs that target under-resourced/low-income residents in St. Louis, MO. As a result of the VISTA member’s service, impoverished individuals’ living environments will improve (i.e. home safety, community beautification, crime prevention) and as a result, they will have greater economic resources for other needs (i.e. property taxes, basic life needs, medications, etc.).
