Campus Compact VISTA - Greenfield Community College, MA
 
 
 
The CCSNE VISTA position will be housed on the Greenfield Community College (GCC) campus and report directly to the Associate Dean of Student Development. The VISTA will be charged with identifying and expanding support for students in recovery from substance abuse disorders who are enrolled at GCC. The VISTA will conduct outreach to prospective students in recovery, work with current partners (The Opioid Task Force and the Recovery Project) while exploring additional partnerships, and researching best practices for working with/supporting students in recovery and addressing barriers to retention (economic and housing stability, food insecurity, legal issues and family relationships). GCC was one of the first community colleges in the country to build a formal network of support for students in recovery. The VISTA position is being leveraged to deepen the program, expand outreach and increase participation in the program. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $472.22 in Franklin County, MA. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide the following: fitness center pass, public transportation pass, access to free or reduced courses, conference attendance, and other professional development opportunities. The AmeriCorps VISTA serving at Greenfield Community College will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps. Serving as a part of the Campus Compact VISTA corps provides VISTAs the chance to connect with corps members throughout multiple states, to create a network of support, and to share resources. Campus Compact supports the professional and personal growth of VISTA members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings throughout their service year. Member Duties : The VISTA at Greenfield Community College will build capacity for the college to support low-income students who are in recovery to be successful and persist in higher education. The VISTA will work with prospective students in the community to understand barriers to enrollment and create systems for success. The VISTA will strengthen existing community partnerships, conduct outreach for new partners and create educational materials for the campus community on substance abuse disorders. The ideal candidate will either be a part time student at GCC or a graduate of one of GCC’s programs. Lived experience and/or previous work with individuals in recovery is extremely useful. We are looking for a creative and visionary person who has strong organizational and technical skills.
