USDA Meal Specialist
 
 
 
The Central Arkansas Library System is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA to serve as USDA Meal Specialist. The USDA Meal Specialist will be responsible for sustaining services to low-income patrons by exploring a CALS sponsored USDA meal program. Member activities include but not limited to, conduct a pre-assessment of CALS’s food assistance programs; refine policies and procedures for CALS USDA meal programs; research food procurement options in the area; and explore electronic record keeping options. Applicants should have excellent communication and organization skills, be able to develop staff training manual and staff training workshops as well as maintain an electronic database.

Member Duties : The Meal Specialist will conduct a pre-assessment of CALS’s food assistance programs. The VISTA will refine policies and procedures for CALS USDA meal programs, compile system-wide program attendance data with meal program attendance, improve operations and data collection, and develop a staff training manual and staff training workshop. The VISTA will research food procurement options in the area, create a list of food vendors, create sample menus, and explore electronic record keeping options. The VISTA will pilot a USDA meal program, document the application process, maintain electronic records, and update monthly reports for the number of meals served. The member will evaluate the pilot, determine best practices, suggest program improvements, and create a succession plan for CALS sponsored USDA meal programs. The VISTA will conduct a post-assessment of CALS’s food assistance programs.
