'19-'20 Two-Generation Project Community Outreach VISTA

UWPC’s goal is to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by lifting 15,000 households out of poverty by 2028. The VISTA member will serve in a crucial role in building a place-based collaboration serving Franklin Pierce School District families using the two-generational approach developed by The Aspen Institute. The VISTA member will serve as the coordinator for this project, working with a variety of partners in the FPSD community to create a networked system of supports designed to support both parents and their children as they move along the continuum from crisis to stable and eventually self-sufficient. The program coordinator will be involved in developing a network system of social service providers, engaging volunteers in this important work, assisting with community building and outreach, supporting efforts to measure and evaluate program success and efforts to increase capacity through resource development. UWPC will bring community leaders, service providers, faith communities, and FPSD families to identify ways we can collaborate to work more effectively and efficiently together to meet the needs of FPSD families. The VISTA member will build relationships with a wide array of stakeholders to support the development and implementation of an effective two-generation collaboration designed to meet the unique needs of FPSD children and parents. The VISTA will be a member of United Way of Thurston County’s VISTA team, made up of 19 other VISTA members. The UWTC VISTA team is supported by the VISTA Leader, who coordinates professional development opportunities, provides individualized support and resources, and supports the program’s success.

Member Duties : United Way of Pierce County's (UWPC) goal is to build strong families in high-need, low-access communities by implementing projects and strategies that break down barriers to both student and parent success. UWPC is embarking on a three-year project to build an intentional community collaboration using the two-generational approach developed by the Aspen Institute to serve the students and families of Franklin Pierce School District (FPSD). The FPSD Two-Gen VISTA member will fight poverty by serving as the project coordinator, engaging community members to assess community needs, implementing support systems for students, young children and their families, and expanding and strengthening partnerships within the collaboration and with the community at large, while cultivating resources (volunteer, in-kind and monetary) and building collaboration capacity.
