Food Security Strategist
 
 
 
The Food Security Strategist will be responsible for strengthening CALS’s services to low-income patrons by providing kids and their families access to food on weekends and during school breaks. Member activities include but not limited to, conducting a pre-assessment of CALS’s food assistance programs; researching best practices for library-based food pantries; creating operation and inventory policies for CALS pantries; and preparing the pantry for operations. Applicants should have excellent communication and organization skills, be able to create policies and be familiar with food operation laws and procedures.

Member Duties : The food strategist will conduct a pre-assessment of CALS’s food assistance programs and research best practices for library-based food pantries. The member will create operation and inventory policies for CALS pantry, determine client eligibility, build an electronic intake form, and establish volunteer tasks and volunteer descriptions. The VISTA will create volunteer recruitment and training components. The VISTA will prepare the pantry for operations by securing inventory, advertise to eligible clients, and recruit and train volunteers. The member will launch a library-based food pantry. The member will create and maintain a monthly reporting system for the library-based pantry. The food security strategist will evaluate the Library Based Pantry to identify successes, identify areas of improvement, and create a succession plan for the library-based pantry. The VISTA will conduct a post-assessment of CALS’s food assistance programs.
