Campus Compact VISTA - Bryant University, RI
At Bryant University, the Center for Student Leadership and Involvement's mission includes the creation of a college experience that links on-campus collaborative learning environments with off-campus community engagement, and active citizenship. The VISTA position at Bryant College is focused on building capacity for education and economic success programs and partnerships. The VISTA will build systems and processes to connect existing leadership and community partnership programs more directly with Bryant’s long-term vision of community engagement and focus on meeting the un-met poverty related needs in the surrounding community. The Bryant VISTA project expects to build capacity for 6 community organizations while developing systems that recruit and manage approximately 120 volunteers. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $472.22 in Providence County, RI. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide the following: fitness center pass, public transportation pass, professional development opportunities, as well as possible conference and food stipends (TBD). The AmeriCorps VISTA serving at Bryant University will also be part of a dynamic, motivated corps. Serving as a part of the Campus Compact VISTA corps provides VISTAs the chance to connect with corps members throughout multiple states, to create a network of support, and to share resources. Campus Compact supports the professional and personal growth of VISTA members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings throughout their service year. Member Duties : The VISTA, in conjunction with partners, will work to create a framework for formalized partnerships between Bryant and the non-profit sector and work with a selection of “pilot partners” that will work toward implementing the interventions. The VISTA will also work to develop a framework of leadership development opportunities that connect students and organizations with the surrounding community and non-profit partners. Activities include: 1) creating different types of involvement so that a variety of entry points into the community can be established for students at differing levels of experience, 2) developing interventions that train, manage, assess, and recruit students, 3) determining sustainable strategies of peer to peer development and student self-empowerment so that programs and cohorts of students can be leveraged to ensure the long-term success and management of these initiatives.
