2019-2020 Housing and Mental Health Staff Training VISTA

Public Action to Deliver Shelter, Inc. (PADS) dba Hesed House is dedicated to alleviating the plight of poor and homeless persons. For over 35 years, PADS has involved nearly 90 Fox Valley area churches, businesses and service organizations in providing a spectrum of care for homeless men, women and children. PADS is the largest shelter in Illinois outside the City of Chicago. It is our mission to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless and give people a chance to hope again. Hesed House is a not-for-profit agency that serves the very poorest residents of the Aurora area. Guests must be homeless and include the unemployed, mentally ill, physically disabled (including persons with AIDS), victims of domestic violence, the chronically homeless, veterans, displaced families, senior citizens, emancipated teens, legal immigrants, alcohol and substance abusers and those experiencing homelessness due to severe economic duress. The VISTA will expand our capacity by improving internal processes in our employee on-boarding and grant tracking. The VISTA will also improve the overall quality and accessibility to staff trainings, which give our staff the tools needed to accomplish our mission of providing dignity while helping guide people through the professional resources needed to attain and retain housing. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive expert training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website.
