2019 – Mott Comm. College & AARP – Pathways to Employment

Flint's poverty rate in 2017 was 39%, ranking highest nationally among United States cities with at least 65,000 residents. As a VISTA serving with Mott Community College (MCC) in collaboration with the AARP, you would help tackle eliminating poverty in Flint through assistance aimed at older jobseekers. MCC runs the Back to Work 50+ program, which provides services to older jobseekers to seek, obtain, and sustain employment. Through partnerships with local employers, the local workforce investment board, and various community partners, you will help over 200 workers overcome barriers to finding employment. You will facilitate job-seeker recruitment, informational workshops, and coordinate job coaching sessions with staff. You will also provide follow-up, tracking, and data entry to ensure that the program is successful. Help contribute to the revitalization of Flint and help older job-seekers re-engage in the modern workforce.
