*MTCC VISTA North West Montana Veterans Stand Down

The Northwest Montana Veterans Stand Down is located in Kalispell, Montana. The Kalispell community has one of Montana’s largest per capita veterans populations, many of whom (approx. 3%) are unemployed. Meanwhile, there are over 500 llocal job opportunities that require specific qualifications and skills. Veterans, especially low income veterans, have requested specialized services and training when it comes to preparing for the workforce but these specialized services and training do not yet exist. Camp Ponderosa will become the resource for these specialized services and training, helping veterans learn skills that will help them obtain and maintain employment. This project is geared to provide low-income veterans the opportunity to gain employment skills while at the same time learning conflict resolution techniques and coping mechanisms all while building connections with fellow veterans experiencing their same struggles. This project will connect unemployed, and under-employed veterans in the Flathead Valley with valuable jobs. Learning employable skills, recognizing the symptoms and triggers of military occupational stress, and developing coping mechanisms will increase income and help move the veterans out of poverty. Reconnecting with civilian life and society will help increase self-sustainability and help to alleviate poverty.
