2019 – Flint & Genesee Literacy Network – Pathways

As a VISTA serving with the Flint and Genesee Literacy Network (FGLN), you will work towards enhancing collaboration and communication among early childhood and adult literacy service providers to encourage two-generational approaches to education in Flint, Michigan. The education, income, and health levels of adults have a profound impact on their families and serve as long-term predicators of the success of their children. In order to improve outcomes for the approximately 60% of Flint children living in poverty, you must improve conditions and outcomes for adults as well. To accomplish this, you will engage with FGLN partners to develop strategies that target local system barriers, garner the support of parents and other integral partners, and effectively communicate partnerships opportunities to advance FGLN's collective impact framework. You will help monitor and assist these partners in pursuit of a common agenda, a successful and prosperous Flint.
