Volunteer Mobilization Coordinator

NeighborLink’s mission is simple, “Practical Neighbor-to-Neighbor Expression’s of God’s love.” We choose to help those who need our help. In doing so, we are fulfilling the greatest challenge, to love one another in a very real and tangible way. Our vision is to build bridges between needs and resources, between volunteers and those in need, as well as providing a way for people to give back to their community. We leverage technology through a multi-function website to provide the structure that allows the needs that fall through the cracks of traditional social services to be housed and communicated to the general community. In turn, the residents of Fort Wayne can find ways to help a neighbor in need with as few barriers as possible. Since 2003, our "online bulletin board” has been mobilizing volunteers into neighborhoods to assist seniors, people with disabilities, and low income homeowners facing life’s circumstances that were beyond their physical or financial ability. We primarily focus on tangible home maintenance, repair, and modification projects the help keep people living independently. VISTAs should be passionate about helping, ensure our mission is being implemented, and have a heart for connecting neighbors. As a VISTA, you will help build capacity for the organization by being self-motivated, driven by their desire to do work at the highest level, be responsible to their team, and to represent themselves and the organization well. VISTAs should have the desire to use data and information to connect the dots for others in an effort to motivate them to action. They should have a heart for service and a desire to be part of someone’s story as they will be interacting and building relationships with people from a diverse range of socioeconomic statuses and should have interest in relational connections. VISTAs are to be inclusive, welcome input, clearly communicate your ideas with those around you, and believe that everyone has something to offer.

Member Duties : Since 2003, NeighborLink volunteers have completed over 10,000 home repair projects for vulnerable, fixed and low-income neighbors in Allen County. Volunteers come to NeighborLink from churches, civic groups, businesses, neighborhoods, or family units. VISTA members will build capacity by recruiting new volunteer groups/communities through public outreach efforts such as events, expos, phone calls and networking, coordinate group volunteer experiences that includes project management, securing resources, and ensuring satisfaction. They will help connect new volunteers to projects on the website that align with their skills/desires, and increase social connectivity with existing NeighborLink volunteers via phone calls, e-mails, and leading projects. The VISTAs will primarily work with the Executive Director and Director of Volunteer Mobilization and will be given the needed resources to successfully complete their job.
