Promise Neighborhood of Central MN - Reading Club (LitMN)

Promise Neighborhood is a community led organization located in SE Saint Cloud. We work with parents and community members to identify community problems, develop community led solutions and make evaluations and adjustments. They also constitute a majority of our board and committees. Our goal is to support the economic, social and academic goals of families. Two schools with over 1,000 kids have a combined poverty rate of over 90%. Many youth are struggling with literacy and many families do not have the resources, time and skills to support youth academics, particularly literacy. Our inside-out, community led model is unique because it includes, empowers and values members of the target community. A Literacy Leader will allow Promise Neighborhood to improve and increase support for youth in SE Saint Cloud. This is a great opportunity for a Literacy Leader to make a difference, improve organizational skills, build confidence and increase social capital. *Additional benefits include: Transportation, emergency assistance, meals reimbursement. *Position is part of the Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA program of Literacy Minnesota (LitMN), which places about 20 AmeriCorps VISTA members with nonprofits, public agencies and Tribal Nations located in Minnesota and Wisconsin to build their capacity to improve literacy for children, youth, adults or families. Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all. Applications reviewed on rolling basis until filled. Alternate start dates may be available.
