WSCO-Twin Cities Renter Organizing Project

The West Side Community Organization (WSCO) powers the people of the West Side to work together to provide a vibrant and thriving neighborhood for all. We envision a just, united, self-reliant and bold West Side where all of our people are connected, safe, healthy, and successful. We are the only West Side organization that is powered by the people for the people. Approximately, 75% of the West Side is considered an area of concentrated poverty, which means 40% of the residents have incomes at or below 185% of the federal poverty threshold. One out of every 5 residents speak English as a 2nd language. This project has grown out of an urgent need to actively pursue the dignity and preservation of affordable housing on the West Side of St. Paul. The project will assist in building the capacity of tenant associations and the WSCO organization. The unique history of this immigrant neighborhood and the diverse community here today are rich in cultural assets. As a planning council for Dist. 3, WSCO is an organization that works closely with residents to navigate city processes. As a VISTA with WSCO, you will be engaging with residents, city staff, municipalities, and public officials in the scope of this work. Bi-lingual candidates in Spanish, Somali, and Hmong are encouraged to apply. WSCO centers organizing through relationship building. Training in organizing methodology will be a component of the program. *Position is part of the HOME Line-Twin Cities Renter Organizing Project 2019-2020 cohort. Applications reviewed on rolling basis through June 07, 2019.
