United Way of the Piedmont Financial Stability VISTA

Over 164,600 individuals in our tri-county area (44%) are struggling or unable to afford basic needs including food, housing, clothing, transportation, health care, and child care. Over 70% of these individuals are likely employed, but don’t have the income to cover their expenses and don’t qualify for assistance. The more we unite community resources to support United Way of the Piedmont’s collective impact strategies, community impact fund, and engagement opportunities, the closer we come to ensuring that Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union County residents have the opportunity to thrive. As an AmeriCorps VISTA, you have the power to make a big impact in our local community. The VISTA will build the capacity and expand programming that increase financial stability for low-income residents. In particular, the VISTA will support the following programs: • Workforce development for unemployed and underemployed, including construction training and social enterprise for homeless individuals • Transportation to work • Mission United (veteran initiative) • VITA (free tax prep) The VISTA will help United Way of the Piedmont better understand the current needs and services, identify barriers and gaps, research best practices that increase impact, leverage resources, and increase community engagement in financial stability efforts. United Way of the Piedmont employee culture is one of service, kindness, and resourcefulness. This is a great opportunity for someone to join a small, collaborative, supportive team, working intelligently, individually, and diligently. A successful VISTA candidate is flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and emotionally intelligent.
