2019 Summer Camp Coordinator

Southside Community Center (SCC) is located in Peoria, IL. SCC is in the 61605 zip-code, which is in the top 100 most impoverished communities in the United States. SCC’s goal is to transform the community one relationship at a time. We hope to implement change by establishing healthy kids, healthy families, and a healthy community. According to the Peoria Public School and Sodexo the Summer Meals Program offered through their partnership are reaching 3 out of every 10 kids on free lunch program. Creative outreach, consistent trust and relationship building are required to find families that are struggling to provide the two meals provided through the school year. SCC seeks to provide a reproducible and scalable sustainable programing that is a trauma informed space for summer enrichment and leadership development. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive expert training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : Summer Camp Coordinator will take leadership role in creating a scalable and reproducible program to share with other churches and agencies. Engage SCC Youth Leadership team to develop plan for recruiting and training volunteers. With Volunteers Summer Camp Coordinator will lead team to design activities built around the VALUES Based Evergreen Leadership Model and marketing for outreach to Southside neighborhood. Meet with kids daily and create safe healthy relationship with all the kids of Southside Community that come for meals and create a strategy for connecting with new families. Help plan Back to School Bash as sign-up blitz for after school program.
