Climate Change Research & Policy Analyst
 
 
 
This position is offered through the City and County of Honolulu (“City”) AmeriCorps VISTA Program with support from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The mission of this program is to 1) address poverty, 2) build capacity, 3) empower communities, and 4) increase economic, social, and environmental resiliency across O'ahu. In partnership with the City Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency (“CCSR”) and the University of Hawaii Institute for Sustainability and Resiliency, this full-time VISTA position will focus on climate change research and policy analysis to enhance the capacity of the City’s Climate Change Commission (“Commission”). Composed of five of the top climate scientists and experts in Hawai'i, the Commission is responsible for gathering the latest science and information on climate change impacts to Hawai'i and providing advice and recommendations to the mayor, City Council, and executive departments as they plan for future climate scenarios. This position is best suited for a policy-minded person with strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to equity and climate resilience on O'ahu. This year-long position begins May 13, 2019 and is based in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

Member Duties : Working closely with the Commission, the VISTA will play a key role in providing climate change research, data, and recommendations to City decision-makers and the public to boost their knowledge of the current and future impacts of climate change. Responsibilities will include: 1) Compile and analyze relevant climate data and research to inform Commission research projects; 2) Lead on drafting high-level, public-facing reports; 3) Facilitate communication between the Commission and CCSR to assess research needs and coordinate with broader City climate initiatives; 4) Facilitate Commission activities including identifying subject matter experts, guest speakers, and preparing presentations and other materials; 5) Connect the Commission to government entities and NGOs as needed to inform research and data collection; and 6) Serve as a conduit between the Commission and the community to increase accessibility to the public and vulnerable communities.
