2019 PADS OES VISTA

Public Action to Deliver Shelter, Inc. (PADS) dba Hesed House is dedicated to alleviating the plight of poor and homeless persons. For over 35 years, PADS has involved nearly 90 Fox Valley area churches, businesses and service organizations in providing a spectrum of care for homeless men, women and children. PADS is the largest shelter in Illinois outside the City of Chicago. It is our mission to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless and give people a chance to hope again. To promote the life-changing work that takes place at Hesed House by building capacity in our PADS Overnight Emergency shelter (PADS OES) Program. Every year our homeless shelters serve about 1,000 people with nowhere else to turn. Community relationships and funding allow us to continue our mission of providing immediate food and shelter for those in need and give us the ability to return them to independent living. The VISTA Summer Associate will fight poverty in our PADS OES program by increasing our capacity for relationship building and hence sustainability, with our volunteer groups that provide food and staffing for every dinner, overnight and breakfast shift of the year. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive expert training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website.
