2019 Retail Capacity Building

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build hope, communities and homes. The AmeriCorps member supports our 2 retail locations to build their capacities and capabilities to accept more donations. Outreach to local businesses to help find and schedule pick-ups of donations will be the primary focus of this position. The VISTA will also work with our Deconstruction Team to help generate more opportunities and create a marketing plan to be targeted towards local contractors. Deconstruction is the removal of re-sellable items from remodel projects throughout the community. An AmeriCorps member will enable us to grow these revenue streams at a faster pace. The goal of the deconstruction team is to salvage and divert over 30 tons of material from being deposited into the local landfills, ultimately resulting in over $75,000 in annual revenue to our affiliate. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive expert training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website.
