2019 Children and Adult Hunger Associate

We are a Community Action Agency serving Boone and Winnebago Counties. Engaging, educating and empowering people in poverty to build stronger communities through programs and partnerships. Our organization is a department of the city of Rockford and a Community Action Agency overseeing many poverty fighting programs. Census data shows, about 22% of our population lives in poverty. In Winnebago County, 12.8% and Boone County 11.8% of the population is considered food insecure (feedingamerica.org). We have had summer food programs since 1978. The VISTA will strengthen and enlarge the program to meet the needs of our community. Our Garden Program has seen a decline over the last few years due to lack of oversight. The VISTA will be able to recruit community groups to begin the process of establishing new gardens. Proper nutrition during the summer ensures that young minds are ready to go back to school to learn. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive expert training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : Conduct research and engagement for nutrition programs. Collect and maintain all documentation/data from the two nutrition programs. Ensure and provide oversight for training and daily functioning of the sites.
