2019-2020 Housing Planning Associate VISTA

Evanston is committed to promoting the highest quality of life for all residents. Its many amenities make it a very desirable place to live and its rapidly rising housing costs threaten its ability to remain an economically and racially diverse community. Evanston needs more housing that is affordable to lower income residents and employees who can’t afford to live here. This VISTA will plan and implement ways to expand affordable housing for lower income households. Stable housing will enable them to achieve economic self sufficiency for themselves and future generations. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive expert training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : Outreach and engagement to underrepresented population segments to inform the development of the City's Affordable Housing Plan. Coordinate work to amend zoning to allow/encourage development of new types of ADUs, including internal or attached to the primary dwelling unit, in R1 and R2 districts. Coordinate Evanston activities relating to the Cook County-wide Assessment of Fair Housing, working with staff in other entitlement communities if this is undertaken on a regional basis; develop and implement community engagement activities.
