TFP – VISTA Skills-based Volunteerism Developer – (MAVA)

The Family Partnership’s mission is Building strong families, vital communities, and better futures for children. Our vision is that all children, families and communities, regardless of income or origins, can reach their potential. TFP was founded in 1878 to address disparities in child welfare. Today, we benefit children’s lives through two-generation (2Gen) programming with whole-family impact. We believe that families are the foundation of strong communities. Our purpose is to clear the path for family success by: • Championing the two-generation (2Gen) approach • Preventing and overcoming adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) • Demonstrating leadership in thought, action, and innovation • Building partnerships based on trust. The VISTA member will improve and grow TFP’s volunteer program by maximizing the use of the skilled volunteers from our existing partnerships, with a focus on evaluating the existing program. The program’s goal is to provide job readiness coaching and financial literacy on a variety of topics including searching for jobs, resume writing, interviewing skills-building, and how to improve credit scores for the families. TFP is piloting the program in the spring of 2019. The VISTA member will review and evaluate the pilot program with the goal of deepening the volunteers and clients’ experiences.

Member Duties : As the VISTA member for The Family Partnership, you will assist in expanding our skills-based volunteer program. You will analyze the skills-based volunteer pilot program and recommend improvements to increase effectiveness in serving families experiencing poverty; create a volunteer recruitment plan to engage volunteers from additional target organizations to support families in improving their financial literacy and job-searching skills; and standardize volunteer processes, including training and tracking all volunteers, throughout the organization. The VISTA member will meet with staff, volunteers, and clients to learn what is working well, and what isn’t working within the program, and then recommend changes to the program. Additionally, the VISTA member will review volunteer training materials and volunteer tracking throughout the whole organization to standardize materials while creating best practices for The Family Partnership.
