OSCS - Speakers’ Bureau Developer VISTA – (MAVA)

Our Saviour's Community Services (OSCS) was created in 2004 to provide oversight of 2 programs begun more than 30 years ago by Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, located in south Minneapolis. We are an independently incorporated non-profit that manages the English Learning Center program (ELC) and Our Saviour's Housing (OSH) program. Our mission is Increasing Skills, Improving Lives. The ELC program provides free English language instruction, math tutoring, computer and citizenship test preparation for newly arrived refugees and immigrants. The OSH program provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing and an array of supports for those who are homeless. Both programs serve adults from our immediate neighborhood. The VISTA will grow our organizational capacity by expanding our volunteer programs to include opportunities for skills-based volunteers. S/he will create a Speakers’ Bureau to communicate to the broader community about our mission and the work we do and create Financial Literacy courses to be taught in both programs. Each of these initiatives will help us work with people to break the cycle of poverty.
