FFEN – Food Shelf Capacity Mobilizer VISTA - (MAVA)

FFEN is a nimble, innovative and entrepreneurial nonprofit investing dollars and practical expertise in improving the financial and operational sustainability of MN food shelves. Our vision is to reshape the food shelf system to provide equitable, healthy and predictable food options throughout Minnesota. FFEN’s skilled volunteers provide free project management and consulting support to food shelves, targeting food shelves in communities that are under-resourced relative to their food needs. Our approach is trust-based and relational, gathering input from the food shelf in order to customize potential solutions to their situation. We strive to be easily accessible partners to both staffed and volunteer-run food shelves. The VISTA project supports this work by developing and strengthening FFEN’s skilled volunteer engagement program to increase the number of food shelf transformations implemented throughout the state. The demand for FFEN’s services have outpaced our current volunteer engagement and there is a need to expand our capacity as well. The VISTA will take the lead on evaluating current practices in place and make recommendations for further development and refinement of the program. This work will significantly impact results at the food shelf level – improving operations, service and culture to increase clients’ ability to choose their own food and ensure healthy, predictable food options in local Minnesota communities. While FFEN works statewide, we anticipate that the VISTA will focus their direct efforts in the Twin Cities metro area and the communities surrounding Rochester, MN.
