POPLI-Volunteer Outreach Coordinator [MCN]

Girls in Action is a weekly mentoring and empowerment program for female students in grades 6 through 12. Founded in 2005 by Dr. Verna Cornelia Price, an African-American business woman and author with a heart for seeing urban students succeed in school and life, Girls in Action is centered on girls learning how to use their personal power to make positive choices in school and life. Women mentors and leaders meet with the girls weekly to work with them on decision making, self-control, careers, and leadership skills. In addition to mentoring, girls also participate in field trips designed to expose them to colleges, corporations and businesses, as well as community organizations. The program has eight core goals: 1. Empower girls to find and positively use their personal power; 2. Provide mentoring through meaningful connections to positive women leaders; 3. Reengage girls in academic achievement; 4. Create pathways for girls to pursue positive leadership; 5. Expose girls to a broad range of career pathways; 6. Prepare girls to graduate on time from high school and pursue higher education; 7. Engage girls in advocacy and social change through service learning; and 8. Engage girls in positive cross-cultural interactions and communication.

Member Duties : The goal of the Volunteer Outreach Coordinator is to ensure each site and each girl has the support, resources, and access to successfully navigate through middle and high school, as well as volunteers being better equipped to mentor our girls to be successful in school and life and break the generational cycle of poverty. This will be accomplished by enhancing communication and marketing strategies, improving the donor and grant management system, and building the capacity of the volunteer program. Specific activities include, but are not limited to, the following: create a communications plan; broaden our donor base through social media; create a system for tracking and logging funds; develop and implement a donor management system improvement plan; recruit, screen, select, train, and recognize volunteers; develop and distribute volunteer recruitment materials; collaborate with the Development Director to connect with corporate organizations; and train staff on new systems.
