Parent Leader and Alumni Coordinator

Families First is a non-profit parenting education organization serving families in Boston and surrounding communities. Our mission is to bring parents of young children together in their communities to strengthen their parenting knowledge, skills, and support systems. For over 30 years, we have been a leader in parenting education. We help parents navigate diverse parenting challenges and build strong parent-child relationships. Parents receive knowledge, skills, and support around parenting, leadership opportunities and other resources. Families First’s office is located just outside of Boston in Watertown. We have free parking and are accessible by public transit. Programs are held at partner sites in and around Boston. Our location provides a convenient space to coordinate the work. In this role, the VISTA will expand on the work from a previous VISTA member and be able to take it to the next level. S/he will be a key contributor to our team and leader of this project. As a small nonprofit, we provide a unique learning environment where the VISTA can experience growth and change. Training/networking opportunities are available. Tasks include developing a leadership pathway plan for parents, creating/coordinating trainings, connecting with partners for trainings/resources, and developing and testing program activities for our parent graduates. The VISTA will have strong communication skills, time management, attention to detail, and an ability to work independently and as a team. S/he should be comfortable working with various cultures. Microsoft Office proficiency is required. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Living in Boston is also a unique experience. It is a vibrant, diverse city with interesting neighborhoods and a rich history. It is home to over 100,000 students and offers many cultural activities such as museums, sports and music year-round. Project dates are 7/22/19-7/20/20. For more information, email aallison@families-first.org.
