2019 Summer Olympia Bupe Clinic Opioid VISTA

Capital Recovery Center is a peer-run community-based mental health agency that has provided counseling, outreach, and related services since 1989. Our mission is to be a peer-supported sanctuary that fosters recovery, healing, growth and community engagement. Our established services include one-on-one peer counseling, support groups, homeless outreach, case management, and one-on-one peer recovery support, in addition to our newly-opened Olympia Bupe Clinic. With opioid use disorder becoming more prevalent, we recognize the need for treatment options that are accessible, evidence-based, and patient-centered. Our low-barrier Olympia Bupe Clinic will provide services — medication, peer counseling, education, harm reduction supplies, and referrals — targeted to those who struggle with opioid use in addition to poverty, homelessness, chronic medical and mental health conditions, social isolation, and other challenges. Our goal is to create a supportive environment in which patients are empowered to define and pursue recovery at their own pace. We strive to reduce or eliminate common barriers to recovery, including stigma, abstinence requirements, lengthy wait times, and outdated approaches to addiction recovery. We embrace evidence-based and promising practices that are shown to improve the health of the people we serve.

Member Duties : The Youth and Young Adult Opioid Outreach VISTA will conduct outreach during the summer to individuals under 24 with opioid use disorder to determine specific needs within this population regarding access to treatment. The VISTA will provide individuals with information about available treatment options, particularly medication-assisted treatment, and will gather feedback about youth-specific gaps and barriers within the local treatment matrix of services. The VISTA will make recommendations to improve access to treatment for this population at OBC and our contract partners. Outreach will be done in conjunction with Partners in Prevention Education, Community Youth Services, YWCA, and CRC’s PATH/STR Program. Outreach will primarily focus on individuals who are homeless, street-dependent, or at risk of homelessness, thus aiming to address and alleviate poverty in our community.
