City of Fairbanks VISTA Leader

**Prerequisite to serve as VISTA Leader: must have served one full term in AmeriCorps (VISTA, NCCC, State/National) or have served in the Peace Corps.** Unemployment, food insecurity, and homelessness are a few of the many challenges that plague the citizens of interior Alaska. The harsh winters, high cost of living, and limited transportation services further complicate these issues. The City of Fairbanks (CoF) is the intermediary sponsor for 11 VISTA projects. The mission statement is to “efficiently and effectively administer ongoing operations and functions of the borough, advocate for the best interests of the citizens of the borough, protect and defend the interests of the citizens of the borough, facilitate economic growth, and provide community direction and principled leadership.” The VISTA Leader will play a vital role in helping the CoF support current VISTA projects as well as identify and address gaps in services within the Fairbanks area by expanding the reach of the VISTA program to address poverty in interior Alaska. BENEFITS: Monthly living allowance (1,411), relocation ($0..40/mile) and settling in allowance ($750) for relocating members, health benefits, child care assistance, national training with other VISTA leaders, and Education Award ($6,095) or cash stipend ($3000). VISTAs in Fairbanks or further north may also qualify for cold weather gear assistance.
