Willing to support a cohort of VISTA members serving agencies providing anti-hunger programs, re-entry services, mental health awareness and peer-led support and more? When you serve as the City of Fairbanks VISTA Leader, you will experience an unique professional development opportunity in municipal government AND make a critical impact on local Alaskan communities by supporting the successful service of members doing crucial anti-poverty work. Apply today and start leading in December! This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, for 1 year. The VISTA Leader's position is housed under the Mayor's Office of the City of Fairbanks. The leader receives a monthly living allowance of $1,533 which is paid bi-weekly. At the end of service, they also have the choice between an education award of $6,895 or a cash stipend of $3,000. The City of Fairbanks (CoF) is the intermediary sponsor for as many as 14 VISTA projects. Each VISTA member serves at a different organization building capacity in their anti-poverty work. The VISTA Leader supports all VISTA members and recruits new members. Tasks include planning and leading group meetings and professional development sessions; checking in individually with VISTA members; creating and implementing a recruitment strategy for full-year and summer associate positions; identifying gaps in services within the Fairbanks community and expanding the reach of the VISTA program to address poverty in interior Alaska.

Member Duties : Live and serve as the VISTA Leader in beautiful Fairbanks, Alaska! The VISTA Leader is vital to the Fairbanks community. Interior Alaska’s VISTA program is sponsored by the City of Fairbanks and housed in the Mayor’s Office, providing the support needed for successful and rewarding projects. *Must have completed a year of AmeriCorps or Peace Corps. The VISTA Leader will have the opportunity to support a potential 14 full-year VISTAs and 10 Summer Associates serving at organizations throughout the borough. The VISTA Leader will work with the program sponsor and site supervisors to support current VISTA projects and members, collect and compile monthly reports and timesheets, recruit new members and projects, and promote program activities and accomplishments. The VISTA Leader will be responsible for increasing each VISTA project’s effectiveness and sustainability through mentorship and creating effective solutions when necessary for and with all VISTA members.
