The African Development Center helps the African immigrant and refugee community grow businesses, build wealth, and increase investment in Minnesota’s African communities. Our overall objective is to help the African immigrant and refugee community participate effectively in the market economy; to this end, we provide business lending, financial education, homeownership training, and business development services.

Member Duties : The VISTA will be an integral member of helping us improve our administrative and employee systems. Activities related to the volunteer management system include: Improve and implement a strategy for recruiting and managing volunteers; improve a method of tracking volunteer numbers, hours, and retention rates; recruit and screen volunteers and interns; create volunteer job descriptions and a volunteer management manual; and train volunteers and staff in volunteer management, including supervision, orientation, and recruitment practices. Activities related to employee systems include: Work with HR and Executive Director to update employee handbook (additions and removals); create/update employee manuals including onboarding processes and position descriptions; establish a system of updating and ensure that staff are trained on updating procedures; and work with program management and organizational leadership to integrate the created systems and procedures organizationwide.
