Notre Dame Housing’s (NDH) mission is to provide service-enriched affordable housing fostering independence and dignity. NDH is more than affordable housing. NDH provides affordable housing to over 120 people through 107 units. NDH’s commitment to the community is brought to life by serving low income seniors 55 and over in the Metropolitan Omaha Area through affordable housing and supportive services. 70% of those served live below poverty level, unable to meet their basic needs of food, housing, transportation, and healthcare on their own. The VISTA project will provide safe and affordable housing, decrease the number of food insecure seniors and improve health outcomes through quality programs and services.

Member Duties : The NDH AmeriCorps VISTA Supportive Services Assistant can look forward to a mixture of duties and unique involvements with indirect service with older adults. The VISTA member will: research and develop a Senior Resource Directory that identifies businesses and organizations that provide services beneficial to the senior population; create and build a Materials Resource Program and database of donors. Through the information gathered during the research and develop phase of business and organizations that provide services for seniors, the VISTA will build relationships with local businesses and community organizations to solicit donations and other in-kind support to build a Materials Resource Program that will provide practical personal and household items designed for the senior population. Planning and coordinating a Senior Health and Resource EXPO, Resident Appreciation events and creating a system to monitor and assess resources will be activities of this position.
