Stewards VISTA: C&O Canal Trust
Support the C&O Canal National Historical Park, one of the fifteen most-visited National Parks in the nation! The VISTA will work with the C&O Canal Trust and the Canal Towns Partnership to advance both organizations’ missions via promotional, fundraising, and program development and management activities in support of the Park. The VISTA will serve with the Canal Towns Partnership’s board of directors on a variety of projects aimed at addressing several goals: to increase the community’s participation in and awareness of the Canal Towns Partnership; to increase the ability of the towns and the merchants to provide visitors with appropriate service and amenities; and to entice C&O Canal National Historical Park visitors to leave the towpath and visit the towns. The VISTA will also work with the C&O Canal Trust in its efforts to support the C&O Canal National Historical Park through a variety of programs and fundraising initiatives. The VISTA would help manage a grant that would add content to the Trust’s trip-planning tools, with an emphasis on the Canal Towns, and blogs and itineraries that would make exploring the Park and its surrounding communities fun and interactive. The VISTA would also participate in the promotion of several programs aimed at increasing participation of new audiences, with an emphasis on young adults and people from racially- and ethnically-diverse backgrounds and would assist with fundraising tasks that would help build the financial viability of the C&O Canal Trust.
