PHENND Fellows - Nonprofit Track - YESPhilly

YESPhilly is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency whose mission is to develop a broad base of opportunities for Philadelphia’s out-of-school youth to prepare them to become successful, self-sufficient adults. Since its inception, YESPhilly has provided opportunities to over 200 high school drop-outs per year. We have developed an educational model that prepares students for college and careers by tying together personal development, media arts, and technology skills, and academic instruction to meet Pennsylvania standards for high school. PHENND Fellows is a program that fosters young non-profit leaders who seek to expand the infrastructure for community partnership development across Philadelphia. Through its Nonprofit Track, it places passionate and talented college graduates at local non-profits as AmeriCorps VISTA members. This track has a three-fold mission: (1) Support local nonprofits fighting poverty across a wide range of issues, (2) Train and retain local talent to stay and work in Philadelphia, and (3) Develop the next generation of nonprofit leaders. During the 2019-2020 program year, 35 PHENND Fellows will actively build capacity in local organizations and participate in extensive professional development as a cohort. This program is run by PHENND (The Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development), a 30-year-old consortium of over 25 colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia region. The consortium actively seeks to revitalize local communities and promote civic responsibility through service learning among the region's higher education institutions. If you want to help build sustainable solutions in Philadelphia, please apply.

Member Duties : The overall goal for the PHENND Fellow is to organize and coordinate a series of resources, activities, and workshops to enrich the lives of YESPhilly students, their families, and residents of the surrounding community. In this first year, the PHENND fellow will convene community participants, solicit partnerships/ resources, and develop programming for the YESPhilly Center. They will recruit partners as providers of weekly after-school and evening activities. They will initially focus on bringing in existing resources at no or low cost—and on inviting local artists and trainers (“makers”) establish YESPhilly as their base for connecting with the community.
