OhioMHAS Recovery Supports Program Assistant

The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is the state agency in Ohio charged with providing statewide leadership of a high-quality mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery supports system that is accessible by all Ohioans. During their service year, the VISTA member serving with OhioMHAS will help implement program activities for the Bureau of Recovery Supports. The VISTA member will learn about housing, employment, and peer support while working with Boards and Provider agencies to increase capacity, quality of services, supports, and program efficiency. During this year of service, the VISTA member will become familiar with how a state agency strengthens the behavioral health continuum of care through the provision of recovery supports that includes employment, housing, and peer support through education and collaboration with other state departments, local boards, and provider organizations. The VISTA member will be a vital member of the team working to ensure the success of these activities.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will work to strengthen state and community efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and other substance use disorders in Ohio. The VISTA member will do this by helping OhioMHAS develop, organize, and implement the Quality Housing Criteria and working with housing agencies to meet the criteria; design, develop, and implement scheduling of recovery supports statewide training opportunities; develop and maintain Board and Provider contact lists and list servs to enhance communication; researching information for potential updates on recovery supports webpages; assist in revising documents and communication prior to their distribution to the public; collect final grant reports and compile summaries. The VISTA member will accompany staff to statewide meetings and trainings to learn and develop further training opportunities.
