PHENND Fellows - Nonprofit Track - Fiesta Schoolyards

Newly established by the Lindy Foundation, Fiesta Schoolyards seeks to develop the full potential of a school play space in terms of academic, physical, and social-emotional enrichment. The non-profit plans to provide 100+ Philadelphia schools with a “smart, impactful transformation,” changing regular, cold asphalt lots into bright, colorful multi-generational play spaces using the Fiesta Schoolyards design over the next decade. PHENND Fellows is a program that fosters young non-profit leaders who seek to expand the infrastructure for community partnership development across Philadelphia. Through its Nonprofit Track, it places passionate and talented college graduates at local non-profits as AmeriCorps VISTA members. This track has a three-fold mission: (1) Support local nonprofits fighting poverty across a wide range of issues, (2) Train and retain local talent to stay and work in Philadelphia, and (3) Develop the next generation of nonprofit leaders. During the 2019-2020 program year, 35 PHENND Fellows will actively build capacity in local organizations and participate in extensive professional development as a cohort. This program is run by PHENND (The Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development), a 30-year-old consortium of over 25 colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia region. The consortium actively seeks to revitalize local communities and promote civic responsibility through service learning among the region's higher education institutions. If you want to help build sustainable solutions in Philadelphia, please apply.

Member Duties : The PHENND Fellow VISTA will implement an outreach/communication plan to sustain the rollout required to supply Fiesta Schoolyards to 100+ needy public elementary schools in six Philadelphia neighborhoods. The VISTA will assist with the communications around the pilot installation of ten Fiesta Schoolyards with multiple stakeholders. They will create timeline updates and Power Point presentations. They will respond to/track queries from interested parties. They will also be involved in event planning for schoolyard launches, including providing materials to prospective corporate and nonprofit partners and performing social media outreach to the adult alum of City elementary schools. In addition, the VISTA will document the Fiesta Schoolyard methodology to create an online manual for other interested municipalities and non-profits. To do this, the VISTA will research the standards of the field and attend meetings with the school communities with the Fiesta Schoolyards team.
