Stewards VISTA: Community Outreach on the Western Slope

Community Outreach on the Western Slope will engage our community in economic and environmental restoration projects. Primary goals include developing watershed restoration projects, creating a robust volunteer and member engagement program, innovating organizational communication plans, and deepening relationships between the community, local businesses, municipalities, and land management agencies. This project works to alleviate poverty by developing partnerships with local businesses and municipalities to create new economic opportunities focusing on key environmental issues such as habitat restoration, watershed conservation, recreation, & recycling. This program seeks to convene a stakeholder group comprised of consumptive and non-consumptive water users to develop relationships, secure funding and make recommendations for multi-purpose projects along the North Fork of the Gunnison River. We will also work with local ditch companies and water conservancy districts to undertake new economic and environmental projects focusing on habitat loss mitigation. This program seeks to form and deepen relationships between the community and local stakeholders to create & sustain new opportunities for outdoor recreation, public lands stewardship, and recycling. The focus of the program is engaging the community to inspire new volunteers and cultivate new conservation leaders in our community. The program will create and leverage a database of meaningful opportunities for the community to participate in hands-on volunteer projects. This will create new educational events such as environmental speaker series to inform the community of exciting current topics in the realm of conservation. The program seeks to create new ways to effectively communicate with our membership and reach new and diverse audiences.
