This program supports organizational capacity to promote community revitalization and economic development of the agricultural + creative sector through educational opportunities and community-based projects. This program will assist in highlighting a healthy future for community members through food, education, art, sustainable energy and living. This VISTA project will focus on: - Communication between diverse segments of our community to build a unified vision and plan for a healthy future that preserves values and lifestyle, heals and preserves our environmental assets, encourages sustainable development, and promotes healthy and sustainable energy. - Resilient economy and sustainable job market activities in response to the coal economy decline; in particular through agriculture, creative, recreation, educational opportunities within the tourism sectors - The protection of our remarkable natural resources, upon which all of the above job sectors depend - Improved collaborative partnerships among and between local non-profits, state, and federal agencies - Economic and cultural revitalization of our small rural town - Educational opportunities to increase awareness of responsible and accountable stewardship of the land - Local school programming addressing health, nutrition, and art - Obtain accreditation of classes through TLC in order to create local opportunities for achieving college education credits The position is based in Paonia, CO, a rural town of 1,500, nestled in a beautiful landscape of mountains and mesas covered with orchards, small ranches, and farms on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. Paonia was recently designated as a Certified Creative District by the state of Colorado. There is easy access to hiking, running, mountain and road biking, kayaking, and rafting.

Member Duties : Capacity building for projects that promote community revitalization, that strengthen the Creative Sector and promote arts as an economic driver, that provide educational opportunities to raise awareness about stewardship of the environment and sustainable agricultural practices, self-sufficiency and community building. Grant Writing and Fundraising for OSMRE/VISTA administrative costs, long-term Project Management positions, Elsewhere expansion projects and capital campaign, and for The Learning Council to spread their educational opportunities to a broad audience and to support locals in furthering their education and to learn new skills. Manage the Farm and Food: Art at Work project: work with Project Team to finalize the project, plan community involvement, work with Artist Selection Team to select artists, do community outreach, plan culminating event. Work with Colleges to gain accreditation for TLC classes.
